BAE Systems has received a $69 million contract to produce additional MK90 rocket propellant grains for the U.S. Army.
The grains will be used to power rockets equipped on rotary and fixed-wing aircraft. The MK90 grains ordered comprise the propulsion component for the MK66 rocket motor, part of the Hydra 70 family of rocket systems used by the U.S. armed forces.
"Our employees take great pride in their work and in understanding the science behind producing superior performing propellants," BAE Systems ordnance general manager Reed McPeak said in a press release. "As one of the Army's trusted munitions providers, we are committed to supplying propellants to enable the safe and reliable delivery of munitions that successfully fulfill important missions and protect our warfighters."
BAE Systems says production is set to begin immediately, and will continue through October 2018. The company manufactures the devices at their Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Virginia.
