Israel announces rocket propulsion system test
Israel conducted an experiment with rocket propulsion systems for ballistic missiles, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
The pre-planned test took place on Tuesday at an air base in Palmachim, in south central Israel, the ministry said in a statement.
According to Ynet news website, the rocket propulsion system is capable of propelling ballistic missiles as well as launching satellites into orbit in outer space.
In April, part of Israel's military defense system known as "David's Sling" or "Magic Wand," a central component in the multi-layered defense system under development, was declared to be a step away from becoming operational following successful testing.
The ministry launched the system for the purpose of providing protection against medium to long range missiles.
It successfully passed a recent test and may become operational early next year.
