World Bank calls for ecosystems to be valued
Nagoya, Japan (AFP) Oct 28, 2010
The World Bank on Thursday called for a radical shift in countries' economic models to include the values of forests, mangroves, coral reefs and other ecosystems. India and Colombia will be among the first countries to take part in a five-year pilot programme with the World Bank to start the economic revolution. Australian scientists say Asia's corals hit by mass die-out

Coral reefs in Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean are dying from the worst bleaching effect in more than a decade, Australian marine scientists said Tuesday. The bleaching, triggered by a large pool of warm water which swept into the Indian Ocean in May, has caused corals from Indonesia to the Seychelles to whiten and die, Australia's Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies said.
