Plague breaks out in China's Tibet
Beijing (AFP) Sept 26, 2010
China issued a health alert in its southwestern region of Tibet Sunday after five people were diagnosed with the plague, an often fatal infectious disease. One of the five has already died from a severe lung infection attributed to the pneumonic plague, while one other patient was in a critical condition, the Tibet health department said in a statement on its website. India extends curfew amid Kashmir tensions

A curfew has been extended to all major towns in India's troubled northeastern state of Kashmir after 17 people died in clashes with police. Among the dead was a policeman. More than 50 people were injured in the violence in the Kashmir Valley area, in the northern part of the state.
