China to begin major quake reconstruction effort
Beijing (AFP) July 8, 2010
China announced Thursday it will launch a raft of reconstruction projects in a quake-hit Tibetan region this weekend, nearly three months after the disaster that killed more than 2,700 people. Construction on 200 projects valued at 16 billion yuan (2.36 billion dollars) will begin from Saturday in the Yushu region of the northwestern province of Qinghai, Xinhua news agency said. Japan began the first round of talks with India in Tokyo Monday on exporting nuclear power generation technology made by technology giants such as Toshiba and Hitachi, the foreign ministry said. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is likely to launch in September a nano satellite being built by students of SRM University in Chennai, a senior official said on Saturday.
