India confirms move to buy C-17 aircraft

The Indian air force is to buy an initial 10 Boeing heavy-lift C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to replace Russian IL-76 transporters, the defense minister said. Defense Minister A.K. Antony confirmed to Parliament that a letter of request was issued to Washington for the $2.5 million acquisition. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully conducted the flight testing of its new generation high performance sounding rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) on Wednesday. Advanced Technology Vehicle (ATV-D01), weighing 3 tonnes at lift-off, is the heaviest sounding rocket ever developed by the ISRO.
