Indians keep faith with Ganges dips despite pollution crisis
Kanpur, India (AFP) Jan 24, 2010

Forgotten Haiti orphans finally get quake aid
Leogane, Haiti (AFP) Jan 23, 2010
Far from the capital, off a dusty lane lined with sugarcane, the youngsters from the Leogane Christian orphanage stare wide-eyed at a UN truck, the first to come here since the devastating earthquake. "These supplies are given to you by the United States. We are coordinating with them," says a solemn Belagaswatta Chandina, the commander of Sri Lanka's contingent of United Nations peacekeepers in Leogane. "Thank you, thank you," exclaims pastor Jean-Claude Chalier, surrounded by barefoot children ... read more

Snail shell provides clues for armor
Cambridge, Mass. (UPI) Jan 20, 2009
The shell of a tiny marine snail could be a model for better armor for soldiers and military vehicles, scientists in Massachusetts said. The shell of the scaly-foot snail can dissipate an amount of energy that would cause weaker shells to break, scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said in a release Tuesday. The snail lives on the floor of the Indian Ocean near ... more

Beijing denies China hackers attacked Indian govt
Beijing (AFP) Jan 19, 2010
China on Tuesday rejected reports that Indian government computers had been attacked by Chinese hackers as "groundless", one week after US Internet giant Google made a similar accusation. A source in the office of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh confirmed an attempted hacking to AFP last Friday, but said nothing had been compromised. The origin of the cyber attack was unknown at this stage, the source said, but daily newspaper Mail Today reported that China was the chief suspec ... read more
